A quasi-experimental study found that a STEM learning community expanded participants' friendship networks while also concentrating more of their friendships inside the program, revealing integration and segmentation at the same time.

Seven first-year medical students created personal sociograms containing 61 alters and discussed them in semi-structured interviews. The qualitative network analysis identified in-grouping and exclusivity, while curriculum reflection sessions sometimes introduced perspectives beyond students' usual circles.

Recommendation networks among educational video channels on YouTube

Researchers snowballed from 37 educational YouTube channels to a directed recommendation network of 412 channels and 1,303 links collected in October 2021. Degree, reciprocity, QAP, and MRQAP analyses linked outgoing recommendations with digital engagement and found homophily in reciprocal channel ties.

Participatory interest groups and the development of residency support networks

Seventeen second-year residents were invited into four participatory interest groups with faculty during a seven-month program. Resident and resident-faculty networks for clinical advice, educational advice, and personal support were measured before and after; active participants showed selected wellbeing and tie gains.

Global and node measures, structural-equivalence blocks, and communities showed an early period of relationship exploration, later stabilization, and substantial carryover of ties into the second term.

How medical students compose personal co-regulation networks across clerkships

A questionnaire completed by 403 medical students, a 65.5 percent response rate, mapped the people they approached for co-regulated learning and the purposes those contacts served. Later-year students reported proportionally more supervisors and fewer peers in their personal learning networks.
