
How medical students reshape support networks during the transition to clerkships

Eight medical students drew ego-network maps within two weeks of starting clerkships and again four months later, then explained the changes in interviews. Their combined alters shifted from 128 to 134 as students deliberately created, retained, and dissolved ties for emotional and instrumental support.
